Even though it’s currently unable to open, due to the latest COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ restrictions, owners and staff at a popular Ruddington public house and restaurant have still got something rather special to smile about.
The Ruddington Arms on Wilford Road is celebrating another listing in the prestigious Michelin Guide – the 2021 edition of which has been revealed this week. The Coronavirus pandemic has meant that it’s come out four months later than usual – as well as being published in digital format only. Nevertheless, inclusion in the internationally renowned food bible remains a considerable accolade – especially as the listings have been cut back a little this year.
This Ruddington venue’s entry states: “Subtle modern touches bring this traditional village pub up-to-date; you’ll find the locals in the appealing front bar with a pint or maybe coffee and cake. Light bites sit alongside more traditional offerings, and there’s always a specials board too. Generously proportioned dishes are full of flavour.”
It also highlights The Ruddington Arms’ takeaway offering of “a wide range of bread, pub classics and deli ingredients; for Friday and Saturday collection” which has been in place whilst the premises are shut. As well as a web shop, the pub has been offering a ‘pop-up’ in its car park on Saturday mornings.
It’s a welcome boost for owners Mark and Sarah Anderson during what’s been an unprecedented period for the hospitality industry. Mark says: “We are obviously very thrilled to be included in this year’s Michelin Guide. This is something we have achieved now for the past six years and are very proud of.”
Noting other venues listed in the area, Mark continues: “As you can see from the list, it recognises the cream of Nottinghamshire restaurants. Sat Bains and Alex Bond are in a league of their own and it’s just an honour to be mentioned alongside the other four places (Iberico World Tapas, Bar Iberico, World Service and La Rock). We have a great team, brilliant local supplier – which is very important – and an amazing loyal customer base. Without the mix of all three The Ruddington Arms would not be the place it is.”
Right now all these local venues can do is sit and wait – until an easing of COVID-19 rules means that they can open their doors to eager, local customers once again.
